Jerry Anderson is the lead Firefly surgeon assigned to operate on Ellie in Salt Lake City. He believes the procedure could advance the search for a vaccine, despite the fatal cost to Ellie. Joel kills him while rescuing her; years later that act becomes the central source of Abby’s grief and the catalyst for the cycle of retaliation in Part II.
